Why Join the Lorenzo Lab?

My goal is to provide a stimulating environment in the lab where we all have fun doing excellent science. I am committed to guiding and supporting every lab member to reach their full potential and achieve their next goals. While projects in our lab focus on two broad research areas, everyone is also encouraged to independently formulate his or her own novel and answerable questions. We cherish diversity and welcome members regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender identification, sexual orientation, body type, socio-economic, age, or disability status. If you are passionate about scientific research, motivated, driven, and are respectful of others, we want you to be part of our lab. If you are interested in joining the team, read on.

Postdocs

Postdoctoral scientists with a strong training in molecular biology, cell biology, imaging techniques, and mouse genetics applied to metabolism or neuroscience are strongly desired. It is also essential that candidates have a strong first author publication history. Interested applicants should email their CV and a 1-page cover letter (describing their past accomplishments, research interests and career goals), along with names and contact information of three references to me (damaris.lorenzo@pennmedicine.upenn.edu).

Graduate students (accepting rotation students for 2023-2024)

If you are a graduate student looking for a rotation lab and are interested in our research, email me (damaris.lorenzo@pennmedicine.upenn.edu) to set up a time to meet. If you are looking for a graduate student position in the Lorenzo Lab and are not currently at UPenn, you will need to apply to our umbrella Biomedical Graduate Studies program (BGS).  The Lorenzo Lab is a member of the Neuroscience Graduate Group (NGG), the Cell and Molecular Biology Graduate Group (CAMB) , the Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics Graduate Group (BMB) , the Pharmacology Graduate Group (PGG), and the Bioengineering Graduate Program.

Undergraduates

Undergraduates in our lab spend over 10 hours per week working on independent and/or collaborative projects, and are expected to commit to the lab until graduation. We give preference to sophomores and rising juniors who plan to pursue research in graduate school. Premed students with a genuine desire to conduct research are welcome to apply. Please send me (damaris.lorenzo@pennmedicine.upenn.edu) your CV, current transcript, a brief statement of why you want to do research and your plans after graduation. Positions for federal work-study eligible students are also available.
